This December, we’re excited to highlight Michael Jara, Administrative Services Coordinator from our Minnesota crew, whose passion for giving back is truly inspiring.
Outside of work, Michael often hosts creative charity events, such as online “donothons,” for organizations that empower individuals with autism.
“My involvement with running online charity events outside of work stems from having an inner urge to assist in anyway I can,” said Michael. “Since I normally don’t go directly to the source of the charity due to being overly stimulated in larger environments, I looked up different non-profit organizations that help those with autism like me further develop their passions and thrive in making that a job. That’s how I first came across Jazz Hands for Autism.”
Jazz Hands for Autism provides experiences and support for those with autism who are musically inclined. They responded with resources and gratitude for Michael’s inquiry, welcoming his offer to make a difference. From there, his involvement with Jazz Hands grew into a recurring way for him to raise awareness and support meaningful causes that matter to him.
Beyond the thrill of live streaming Jazz Hand’s events, he enjoys collaborating with friends to support their mission, often incorporating video games into his livestreams, adding laughter and fun to the experience.
“It’s amazing to see all the kindness the community I help to foster while hosting these events. We have managed to raise so much money for different efforts, and I’m always appreciative of their big-heartedness.”
Michael’s volunteering has inspired others in his streaming community to contribute, amplify, and spread awareness not only around Jazz Hands, but for people who have autism. Through his experience, Michael has witnessed firsthand the generosity and kindness of an online community coming together from across the country to raise money and support meaningful causes.
