Dete’s Got Talent!

Each year, the Mains’l Mission Team visits the Dete Old Age Home. This year, a special event was hosted – a local talent show arranged by our Mother Africa Trust project managers, Willz and Lucky!

Over 300 Dete community members attended, including the Bishop from the Hwange Archdiocese, local priests, students from three area school districts and their families, teachers, the Old Age Home staff and residents, and other local families.

More than 20 acts showcased their talents in the categories of Poetry, Choir, Drama, Dance, and Traditional Dance. The judges were Father Briele, Mother Africa Trust Field Operations Manager Mayeso, and mission team members Greg and Tracy. Many prizes were awarded, including school supplies and sporting goods, headphones, cash prizes, a safari, and much more!

A lavish lunch was provided for all 300 attendees, with food and cooking by Mother Africa, Ivory Lodge, another local lodge, and Mains’l. The event was so popular that we’re already planning to make it an annual show!

The team also spent time with the madalas – those who live at the Old Age Home, – and the delightful staff who support them. Sister Clothilda is the home’s new director, while Sister Cecilia is in Spain on a sabbatical.

It was a joy to work alongside this wonderful group. The madalas were in great spirits, and we had a lot of fun visiting, working in the garden, cooking, and celebrating together with lunch, cake, and special gifts for all.
