Traditional Supports

"Traditional" supports include programs that are managed by the service provider, like Mains'l Services, Inc. Unlike Consumer Directed Options, where the consumer is in the "driver's seat," the provider has the authority, and the responsibility, to direct the consumer's resources. Traditional services are licensed and regulated by the state and county in which they are delivered.

Below is a list of traditional supports that are common in the "industry." The intent of the list is to provide you an idea of what's possible. Please don't let it overwhelm you, as we'd be happy to explain any of the options or answer your questions. Together we'll discover the best option for you or your loved one by listening to your wants and needs.

In Minnesota:

Hourly Supports

  • Independent Living Services (ILS) allow you to live in your own home or apartment. Mains'l Services, Inc. offers the supports you need in daily life skills. We can help you reacquire skills lost due a trauma or mental health considerations, or teach you new skills to help you live as independently as possible. Creating new friendships, staying healthy and safe, finding fun things to do, managing money, and housekeeping are examples of what we can work on together.
  • In-Home Family Support increases your ability to continue to care for and support your family member in your own home. A trained caregiver will assist you with activities of daily living and movement towards your personal goals, at home or in the community.
  • Personal Supports is a traditional service that provides unlicensed staffing support. This simply means your employees are not mandated to be trained as in licensed services. Supports are offered in your home or in the community to achieve increased independence and inclusion in the community, as desired. In additional, mileage and other items may be built into your support plan.
  • Respite Care is offered on an hourly or full day (24 hour) basis, including overnight care, providing you relief as a primary caregiver. Respite Care can be provided in your home or in one of our qualified respite provider's homes.

24 Hour Care

  • Host Homes are ideal for someone who wants to live in a "family" setting, and where 24 hours a day of support is necessary. A qualified caregiver offers a loving and respectful home, and Mains'l Services, Inc. supports the caregiver through respite time, ongoing assistance, and enhanced training. This assures that the caregiver has adequate support to provide services in their home.
  • Shared Care offers people the ability to share a home or apartment, up to four people, and roommates share their staffing hours. The combined hours will allow for more support to meet both household needs and individual choices. In some cases, family members may elect to contribute to staffing hours.
  • Corporate Foster Care (sometimes referred to as a "group home") provides a complete living environment: a home that is safe, comfortable, and reflects personal choice, food, utilities, maintenance, clothing and linens, and, in some cases, transportation. Adult Foster Care is usually combined with Daily Supported Living Services.
  • Daily Supported Living offers up to 24-hour assistance to people who need assistance, in their own homes. Supports focus on personal needs, socialization, health care, and community living involvement. Special services such as nursing, therapy, or psychological services are also available, if desired.
