ESSENTIAL BEHAVIORAL SOLUTIONS

"The goal of any behavior support plan is to identify and create supports for people to manage or modify their targeted dangerous or highly disruptive behavior.  However, good behavior or crisis management programs are not just about learning how to get the individuals to 'calm down.' It is about planning, working together as a team, teaching skills, and understanding the individual and how they are trying to meet their needs."
- Philosophy of Essential Behavior Solutions Team, Mains'l Services

Essential Behavioral Solutions equips people with the tools, training, and techniques needed to anticipate and manage critical situations, as well as prevention practices to maintain and strengthen productive behaviors.

1)  Person Centered Philosophy:  Understanding the total person is the first step in developing a viable behavioral solution, and remains the essential focus throughout the behavior management process.  A comprehensive Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is completed by qualified staff, and includes background history, interviews and input from the person’s circle of support, and observation in natural environments.

2) Behavior Analysis and Management:   Following observation, data collection, graphing, and analysis, individualized behavioral plans are developed, with oversight by Board Certified Behavior Analysts.  Systemized on-site training is conducted for all caregivers implementing   the plan.  Periodic assessment of the plan and plan modification occurs as needed.

3) Crisis Intervention, Prevention and Training:
On-site consultation by qualified staff is available to address immediate behavioral needs. In most cases, staffs are available within 48-72 hours.  An abbreviated FBA is completed, interactions by staff and individuals are observed, and a written summary and recommendations are provided.

In addition, Mains’l Services offers a series of behavior management training courses, which teaches caregivers to successfully manage crisis behaviors as they are occurring.  Training includes intervention and prevention techniques.

*Basic BehaviorTools: This six hour class lays the foundation for building positive relationships with people who exhibit challenging behaviors.

*BehaviorTools This advanced six-hour training is a follow up to Basic BehaviorTools, teaching participants how to effectively set expectations, analyze behavior and identify replacements, and demonstrate all the tools learned in a variety of situations.

*Professional Crisis Management (PCM):  Mains’l Services offers PCM training and certification to equip caregivers to effectively and confidently deal with challenging behaviors, as they occur. PCM courses include Practitioner I and Practitioner II certification.

*On-Site Advanced Behavior Training: This intensive training offers practical application of the skills learned in natural environments.

“We just finished our three days of PCM training here at SCS, and I did not want to delay in telling you about how pleased I am with the experience.  The PCM curriculum is excellent, and the trainers are exceptional.  I am so impressed with Bon, Parrish, and Sue; they are truly top performers in every way.  Thank you for sharing them with us for this training.  I am very happy to now have three new friends and colleagues.”
